North Dakota Primary Election Under Way

Polls are opening across North Dakota as the state's primary election gets under way.

 

 

 

 

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - Polls are opening across North Dakota as the state's primary election gets under way.

There are Republican primary races for U.S. House and Senate seats, and three people are vying for two November ballot spots to run for state school superintendent.

There also are four ballot measures, including contentious proposals to retire the University of North Dakota's Fighting Sioux nickname, abolish property taxes and make it tougher for the state to regulate religious practices.

Polls began opening at 7 a.m. Tuesday and will begin closing at 7 p.m.

More than 43,000 people already had voted, using absentee ballots and early voting procedures set up in some counties.
