WASHINGTON (AP) - Mitt Romney is looking to pad his lead in the race for convention delegates in Republican presidential primaries Tuesday in Arkansas and Kentucky, moving ever closer to the nomination he's all but certain to win.

If he dominates, the former Massachusetts governor should reach the needed number of delegates next week, when Texas voters go to the polls.

With all the other Republican candidates out of the race, Romney has been in general election mode. He was scheduled to spend Tuesday evening at a fundraiser in New York before an appearance in Washington on Wednesday.

Seventy-five delegates are at stake in Kentucky and Arkansas.

Romney had 992 delegates heading into the contests, 152 shy of the 1,144 needed to win the nomination.
