House Fire Reported North Of Moorhead

Fire has heavily damaged a home in Oakport Township. The fire broke out shortly after 6 a.m. Monday on north Broadway.

Fire has heavily damaged a home in Oakport Township. The fire broke out shortly after 6 a.m. Monday on north Broadway.

Homeowner Robert Maier, his wife and daughter made it out safely.

"I got up and I poured water in the coffee pot, turned it on and come out to work on my horse Toby," said Maier. "I was out here just saddling him up and the wife come running out and said the house is on fire."

Maier said he thinks the fire was sparked by a malfunctioning coffee pot.

Firefighters from Dilworth, the Clay County Sheriff's Department and The Salvation Army were on the scene.
