MOORHEAD, Minn. - The Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragons 4x100 meter relay crew woke up this morning like just another day, but they received a call this afternoon that will send them packing for the NCAA National Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Pueblo, Colo.
The good news was given to the relay team of Prentice Dervin, Laquone Robinson, Ryan Olson and Uchenna Ogbonnaya late afternoon on Monday. This was the biggest news all day for senior Uchenna Ogbonnaya, as he is still in disbelief of this accomplishment.
"I came here to clean out my locker," said Dragons senior Ogbonnaya. "Then I got the call and started packing."
Robinson and Olson were already heading to Pueblo as they both qualified for other events, but for Dervin and Ogbonnaya, this is one more chance at their goal.
"This means everything to me, to have this experience as a senior and to end my career here representing the Dragons at nationals is just the icing on the cake," said Ogbonnaya.
Dervin and Ogbonnaya join ten other Dragons heading to compete at the highest level in Division II athletics. The group of twelve will leave at 6:00 a.m. Tuesday morning to begin preparation for the first events which begin on Thursday and run through Sunday at the Netta and Eddie DeRose Thunderbowl on the campus of Colorado State University-Pueblo.
