MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - The Minneapolis City Council is getting ready to give the Vikings stadium proposal its last push before it becomes a reality.
A council committee of the whole is voting on the nearly $1 billion stadium plan Thursday. If it passes, a final vote follows on Friday. That makes Thursday a likely last stand for stadium opponents.
Mayor R.T. Rybak has been confident he'll hold his 7-6 stadium majority on the council. Opponents say using $150 million in city sales taxes is a bad deal for residents and that they deserve the right to vote it up or down by referendum.
Gov. Mark Dayton signed the stadium bill last week, with Minneapolis approval its final hurdle.
