FARGO, ND - Beginning at 8 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, people from across North Dakota and western Minnesota will embark on a 40-day non-stop prayer vigil in front of North Dakota’s only abortion facility.
The prayer vigil is part of the 40 Days for Life campaign, a nationwide, ecumenical effort to increase awareness about abortion, save the lives of unborn children and bring healing to those who have had abortions, those who have encouraged abortions, and those who perform and assist with abortions.
The campaign is being undertaken simultaneously Sept. 23 through Nov. 1 in 212 cities in 45 states, including eight locations in Canada, the District of Columbia and Denmark. Its components include prayer and fasting, peaceful vigil and community outreach. In North Dakota, efforts are being coordinated by the 40 Days for Life ND Committee. The first statewide 40 Days for Life effort was conducted in the fall of 2007.
An ecumenical opening prayer service will be held Wednesday, Sept. 23, at 8 a.m. on the sidewalk outside the Red River Women’s Clinic, 512 1st Ave. N., Fargo, which is the only abortion facility in the state of North Dakota. Round-the-clock prayer (24 hours per day for 40 days) will continue outside the facility through Nov. 1.
