BISMARCK — Fargo attorney Mark Schneider has been chosen as the new chairman of North Dakota’s Democratic Party.
The party’s policy committee picked Schneider during a Saturday meeting in Fargo.
Schneider said his goals are to re-elect Democratic Sen. Byron Dorgan and Rep. Earl Pomeroy, and increase Democratic strength in the North Dakota Legislature. Republicans now control the state House and Senate.
Schneider said he’ll also be working to bring more students and young families into the political process.
He has been an attorney in Fargo for more than 30 years. His son, Mac Schneider, is a Democratic state senator from Grand Forks. His nephew, Jasper Schneider, is a Democratic state representative from Fargo and a former candidate for state insurance commissioner.
Schneider succeeds David Strauss. Strauss resigned in July to become chairman of a federal pension agency advisory board. Schneider will serve through the 2010 elections
