FARGO, ND - It's been more than a month since we last heard from two University of Winnipeg students canoing their way to New Orleans, LA.
KFGO's Don Haney spoke with the two, and it appears they had a brush with death, forcing a change in plans.
Nick Turnbull and Murray Jowett spent several days on a stop over in Fargo, ND, in early October as they journeyed down the Red River from Winnipeg before continuing on to the Mississippi River.
Jim Turnbull, Nick's father, tells KFGO the pair had to be rescued from an island in Muscatine, Iowa, when their canoe was swamped by high winds and waves. They lost lots of their gear in the accident but managed to save their guitar and violin.
But Jim Turnbull says the two are not giving up. They're continuing their trip on foot and by bus in the hopes of reaching New Orleans, which they call a music mecca.
At last report Nick and Murray were bussing their way to the destination and were Austin, Texas.
