The U.S. livestock industry could look dramatically different once the current drought finally ends.

University of Missouri ag economist Scott Brown says feed prices will probably have the greatest impact on livestock. He predicts that costs could triple in 2013 compared to the 1990-2004 average.

However, culling as a result of the drought could eventually lead to increased genetic potential in the herds of producers that are able to survive the extreme weather, he says.
