Hi   Doug:

Just got back from the hunt with a possible Boon and Crocket male black bear--Third largest in the history of the Selway Forest. My guide measured the skull and it scores high enough. Have to weight to have it officially measured by a representative of B&C before it can go in the book though. For that, the hide has to be removed, so I have it and the hide in for making into a rug and European head mount. The bear came in out of no where at 9.15 on May 31 near the whitecap Creek in Idaho. My guide and I had seen nothing the previous three nights, until that big bear came in, tossing logs off the bait like they were sticks. I then shot him with my 30.06 at a range of 60-yards using a tree as cover. He went a little ways before diving into some grass. My guide than took my rifle and began to track, joined by another guide that heard the shot. I hid out.  With my guide taking my rifle to track , a wounded bear on the loose somewhere nearby is not conducive to one’s well-being.  Hopefully, one of these times I hunt dangerous game I will remember to take my 357 magnum life insureance policy.  When they found him, I was relieved, but I wasn’t able to get to him. The slope was so crumbly that my guides caped him out and took what pictures they could before we headed back to camp. We saw no more bears or wolves, but that monster was all  the  apex predator I needed. Well, needless to say, the video and pictures are in my pack and hopefully will be coming out soon. Anyway, escaped injury yet again with a story to tell.
