New face at NDSU

John Rickertsen has joined the North Dakota State University Hettinger Research Extension Center as a research agronomist.

 

 

 

 

John Rickertsen has joined the North Dakota State University Hettinger Research
Extension Center as a research agronomist.

He joined the center Jan. 14 and has a 100 percent research appointment.

The focus of Rickertsen's research will be agronomic issues facing producers in
southwestern North Dakota. These issues include variety and herbicide selection,
fertilization, alternative crops, cover crops, crop rotations and no-till
production practices.

Prior to coming to NDSU, Rickertsen was at South Dakota State University for 19
years, most recently as an Extension Service field specialist. Prior to that, he
was a research agronomist for the West River Crops Project in Rapid City, S.D.
He also was a research technician with various seed companies in the Midwest.

Rickertsen earned a B.S. in agronomy and an M.S. in plant breeding and genetics
from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

"The Hettinger REC and advisory board are excited to have a scientist with
John's experience join our team," says Christopher Schauer, Hettinger REC
director. "He will hit the ground running and ready to address the agronomic
research needs for the producers of southwestern part of the state. We are
pleased to welcome John and his family to North Dakota and NDSU."
