On this week’s My Thoughts Exactly, Daniel “Pinto” Gunderson and his brother make their annual NFL season predictions.
After years of doing this just between ourselves, I have decided to make the NFL season predictions my brother, Joey, and I embark on public information. Please, feel free to rip us if you so choose.
We are not fancy with these picks. We do not pour over roster moves, statistics and schedules beforehand. It usually is a conversation that happens while I’m sitting on the couch and my brother is watching yet another meaningless Twins game.
My brother is a diehard Vikings fan and I am a Cowboys nut. That does not cloud our judgment, as you will see. We pick on pure gut feeling and more often than not, we are dead wrong. But, it is fun and a bonding activity my brother and I go over every fall and in the spring for baseball.
So without further adieu, here are our 2012 NFL predictions.
Joe’s Picks
NFC East – Giants
NFC North - Packers
NFC South – Falcons
NFC West – 49ers
NFC Wild Cards – Lions and Panthers
AFC East – Patriots
AFC North – Ravens
AFC South – Texans
AFC West – Broncos
AFC Wild Cards – Bills and Steelers
NFC Champs – 49ers
AFC Champs – Ravens
NFL Champs – Ravens
Dan’s Picks

So, there you have it. It is pretty cut and dry. The only comment I would make to my brother is the Panthers? That seems like a stretch because the NFC South is not a weak division, nor is the East or North. The Panthers would have to have better records than the Bears, Cowboys, Eagles Lions and Saints.
I’m guessing here, but my thought is he would question my pick of the Bengals. While the AFC itself is not as deep of a conference, the North is a deep division. The Ravens and Steelers are both very good. The Broncos look to be better offensively with Peyton Manning. The Bengals were somewhat of a fluke last year and to have them win the toughest division in the AFC is pretty close to a miracle.
Should be fun to see how this pans out. I’ll be checking in on these picks after Week 9 of the NFL season, just to see if we were on par or way off base. At that point, I will allow one change to each conference. That could be changing a wild card pick or division winner.
The winner of this year’s pick ‘em, like always, will receive bragging rights at the end of the season.
