ABILENE, Texas - Master Sgt. David J. Hansen is retiring after 26 years of service to the Air Force. He entered the Air Force under the delayed entry program March 11, 1983, and entered active duty Nov. 21, 1983.
Master Sgt. Hansen''s assignments include K.I. Sawyer AFB, Michigan; Cannon AFB, New Mexico; Grand Forks AFB, North Dakota; and Dyess AFB, Texas.
He was deployed to Panama, January to April 1999, providing ambulance support for the Army at Fort Clayton and support for the Explosives Ordinance Disposal unit clearing the bomb range. Recently Master Sgt. Hansen deployed to Baghdad, Iraq from March 21, 2007 to March 14, 2008, where he received his Bronze Star for exceptional meritorious achievement as the Senior Medical Noncommissioned Officer Advisor.
At present, he is the 7th Medical Operations Squadron Superintendent. Master Sgt. Hansen oversees the medical operations of 63 enlisted and civilian employees. He advises the squadron commander, staff and flight commanders on all enlisted matters pertaining to professional development, management and career progression of enlisted members.
Master Sgt. Hansen assigns incoming enlisted personnel to three flights, mentors NCOs on leadership traits and acts as the key unit contact for the Medical Group''s Chief Enlisted Manager, First Sergeant, and other squadron superintendents. He also reviews and edits all performance reports, award packages, and other enlisted personnel products, as well as award nominations for civilian personnel.
Master Sgt. Hansen ensures the proper utilization of manpower and management of a $500,000 budget. He serves on the Medical Group''s recognition boards to determine quarterly and annual award winners. Master Sgt. Hansen also assigns the personnel needed to accomplish deployment taskings from the 7th Bomb Wing. In addition, he performs the duties of Aerospace Medical Services Functional manager for 58 Medics.
Master Sgt. Hansen orchestrated over 15,000 hours of and personally provided more than 200 hours of medical support for President George W. Bush during his times spent in Crawford, Texas.
The son of Gary and Judy Hansen of Powers, Master Sgt. Hansen is married to the former Michele Williams of Capac, Mich. They have four children - David, 25; Megan, 21; Victoria, 19; and Mary, 14.
