Monday, October 12th, 2009

Hey Everybody!  I hope that you are enjoying life as best as you can.  Well, the Twins are done at the Dome, and The Vikings are hot.  The snow has started to fall in the Fargo-Moorhead area, and I am SOOO not ready for it yet.  I am going to start doing two blogs a week.  One that tells you all about what is coming up this week (as far as entertainment arount the area), and one on Friday that spotlights the weekend happenings.  Be sure to check it out, and heck, print it out if you would like, so you don’t forget!  So, here we go…

MONDAY

The Laramie Project: Ten Years Later (An Epilogue)

One Night Only

Acclaimed local theatre company Theatre B will premiere a compelling and groundbreaking epilogue to THE LARAMIE PROJECT: TEN YEARS LATER (AN EPILOGUE) at 7:00pm on October 12 at the Historic Fargo Theatre. In conjunction with Theatre B, the North Dakota Human Rights Coalition and the Pride Collective & Community Center will be facilitating a community-wide conversation about the effects Hate and Hate Crime on communities. The presentation will include a live webcast with the authors of The Laramie Project as well as nationwide Question and Answer session following the performance. The Pride Collective & Community Center will also be presenting their F-M Area National Coming Out Day Awards to an individual and organization that have worked to make Fargo-Moorhead a more inclusive and safe community for all people.

The epilogue focuses on the long term effect of the murder of Matthew Shepard on the town of Laramie. It explores how the town has changed and how the murder continues to reverberate in the community. The play also includes follow-up interviews with many of the individuals from the original piece, as well as new interviews with Matthew’s mother Judy Shepard and Matthew’s murderer Aaron McKinney, who is serving dual life sentences.

The Fargo performance of the Worldwide Premiere will be free and open to the public; members of the audience and community-at-large are welcomed and encouraged to make a free will offering which will benefit local efforts to end violence and to heal the damage caused by hate crime and violent intolerance.

In tandem with the Premiere, an online interactive community will be launched where participants can blog, upload video and photos, and share their stories about the play, their experiences in preparing and presenting the Epilogue in their communities. That online community will be open to the public at www.laramieproject.org.

“We are thrilled to bring this epilogue to The Laramie Project to Fargo,” said Theatre B Ensemble Member Carrie Wintersteen. “This important piece of American theater tells a universal human story and has been a transformative experience for the cast and audience,” continued Wintersteen. “Our hope is that the epilogue helps us better understand the impact of Matthew’s death, as well as provide truth and context as this piece of American history is retold to a new generations,” concluded Wintersteen.

 TUESDAY

RAISE THE RED LANTERN & GOD’S REVOLVER

Music for fans of Whiskey, Long Hair, Bongs, PBR Pounders, Loud Tube Amps, Emperor Cabs, No Idea Records, High on Fire, Planes Mistaken for Stars and Danzig!

Tuesday October 13th @ The Aquarium
$5 | 10pm | 21+
$4 if you ride your bike

-RAISE THE RED LANTERN (Chicago, on At A Loss Rec)
-GOD’S REVOLVER (Salt Lake, on Translation Loss Rec)
-BLACKEYES/DOLLSEYES (Local Metal Stories)
-TINY MOVING PARTS (This band just moved to Fargo, awesome sounding old screamo, like Saetia era)

ABOUT THE TOURING BANDS:
RAISE THE RED LANTERN
Hometown: Chicago Label: At A Loss Recordings

“These guys have the sort of no-bullshit ethic that punk and metal were built on, and I’m going to have to say it doesn’t get much better than this. Think Harkonen playing out of High on Fire’s equipment after listening to No Idea’s catalog. Ugly, drunk, staggering, and pissed.”-SEAN LOISELLE, LAMBgoat Magazine

“While at times snippets of songs garner comparisons to Coliseum and Converge, the end product to me seems to be what Planes Mistaken for Stars would sound like if they were actually good. For all you Planes Mistaken for Stars fans out there, Raise the Red Lantern is what you should be listening to. For all those who hate Planes Mistaken for Stars, don’t worry, you’ll probably like this album just as much” -Punknews.org

“It’s hard for me to really get at the heart of what makes everything Raise the Red Lantern does – but I promise you haven’t heard it before. They have a punk ethos and the brass balls of a seasoned stoner band AND they rock the fuck out. To me the closest reference point would be Planes Mistaken for Stars, which always radiate that aloof, grungy, strangely beautiful sound. Raise the Red Lantern certainly doesn’t ape the same sound, but more of a similar foundation to build up a monumental wall-of-sound from. Plain and simple, these guys rock.” -Scenepointblack.com

GOD’S REVOLVER
Hometown: Salt Lake City/Provo Label: Translation Loss Records

“These whiskey-guzzling malcontents from Provo, Utah, deliver an ugly, profanity-laced Western epic in the guise of wild-eyed rock ‘n’ roll, with guitars firing like well-oiled six shooters and story narration provided by a singer who conjures a steroid raging Glenn Danzig with a nasty cigarette rasp. Down, dirty, drunk and unhinged, this is the way rock is meant to be played.” -Magnet Magazine Best of 2008: Hard Rock, Matt Ryan

“Say you stumble into a biker bar somewhere near Macon, Ga., and the air is so thick with smoke you can barely make out the figures performing onstage. You order a pitcher of whatever’s on tap and try to determine who the hell is absolutely destroying the room with monster jams. Judging by the powerful screams, the group could easily be fronted by either Dr. Teeth (with The Electric Mayhem—look it up) or Bobcat Goldthwait on mescaline. Turns out it’s God’s Revolver, an honest-to-goodness Southern-blues-metal band out of … Provo? Well, Happy Valley can be a font for rage on the verge. Good news for Utahns who needn’t travel far to get their asses kicked.” -Salt Lake City Weekly.

WEDNESDAY

Captured! By Robots return to the Aquarium Wednesday

Prepare to get motivated by rockin robots!

Captured! By Robots (San Fran robots capture human and rock the world)
Fup (TV themes tribute act)

October 14th, 2009
The Aquarium (Dempsey’s Upstairs)
9:30 Doors 10:30 Show 21+
$10 cover adv tix at Orange Records, the Red Raven and www.ticketweb.com
drink special: $3 Pounders

Longtime Aquarium goers know the magic that is Captured! By Robots. For the unintiated, the story goes like this JBot has been captured by robots, literally. But these arent just any kind of robots. These robots rock and play their own instruments. And they force the lowly human JBot to play with them and tour the world. So not only do you get to witness a live kidnapping but you get to rock out at the same time. Its been awhile since they’ve been to town, JBot and crew havent been here for a year and half. They arent touring as much as they used to. Of course as always, Captured! By Robots has brought a theme to this tour (previous visits included the Dubya tour, the Ten Commandments tour, the Greatest Hits tour, the Get Fit tour and get married tour), this time around its the Motivational tour! Yes CBR! are gonna get you pumped up and in the mood and motivated to do whatever you want to do. So get ready to get motivated. Start by going to the show. Always an entertaining good time and trust me these amazing robots actually play their instruments. Its quite an interesting spectacle. Check it out this Wednesday at the Aquarium.

So what’s the deal with C!BR?? Let me (DRMBOT 0110) tell you. JBOT played in a couple of ska bands, Skankin’ Pickle and the Blue Meanies for years and was very unlikable. Everybody got sick of him (I don’t blame them). JBOT thought that if he made a band of robots to play with everything would be okay. HE WAS WRONG! He built GTRBOT666 and myself and the idiotic Ape Which Hath No Name. After he built us, I decided that he was the antibot and must be punished. We installed a Biocerebral Chip in his CPU and now force him to humiliate himself in front of his peers. It makes me so happy to see him suffer. So after the takeover, he secretly made the Ape. The stupid ape robot loves everyone and everything; HOW REVOLTING! Unfortunately, I cannot do anything to rid my circuits of that ape. For it states in the ROBOTIC RESISTANCE handbook, “Thee bot shall never harm another bot.” So what choice do I have? The rare joy I can receive is when GTRBOT666 and myself humiliate JBOT all over the country. The other happiness I have is to see my self-replication “AUTOMATOM” humiliate jbutt to tears. You will come to witness! Coast to coast, his humiliation will be legendary. Keep checking in for updates. These bots have done a lot! C!BR has been through a lot since the human JBOT’s capture back in 1996. We have taken the human on ten national tours and have been received as one would expect. The term “Holy shit” seems to be the most commom expletive uttered. Do you not believe? Oh, you will! C!BR has played with Public Enemy and Flock Of Seaguls (at G-Phoria video Game award show in LA), Motorhead, Servotron, Man…or Astroman and many more. C!BR has been featured on UPN’s “Strange Universe” and on the discovery channel’s “Beyond Bizarre”, Tech TV, ABC 7 6 oclock news, and more.. We have also humiliated JBOT at the Art Institute of San Francisco and at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, San Francisco. C!BR has had articles in The New York Times, Spin Magazine, The New Yorker Magazine Gene Simmons Tongue Magazine, Rocktober (where we were voted the .1 robot rock band), Bikini Magazine, Heeb Magazine, Churn, and many more.

Captured! By Robots play the Aquarium Wednesday.

In the summer of 2006, youth director Erik Hatch (First Lutheran Church, Fargo) found himself with a core group of kids who were increasingly passionate about serving God and his Kingdom.  In an attempt to challenge their faith and discipleship, the group decided to create an event called “Homeless & Hungry.”  The idea was that this philanthropic event, led by youth, would attempt to raise awareness and dollars for the plight of the homeless & hungry in the FM area.

Giggling Girlfriends Annual Fun, Kicks and Giggles … As Ususal

25th Street Market, 1450 25th Street South, Fargo, ND

All of this happened because Andra Suchy grew up on a beef and wheat farm south of Mandan, North Dakota, where she was raised by folk musicians. Andra began touring and performing at festivals at a young age, and studied classical voice through high school.

She played the lead role in “Annie” and Rapunzel in “Into the Woods”, but not just because of her hair. In 1996 Andra moved to Minneapolis, where she was nominated for the Minnesota Music Academy “Female Vocalist of the Year” in 2004, 2005, and 2006.

Andra has written, performed, and recorded with many artists, including The Honeydogs, Dave Pirner, Jonny Lang, Chuck and Ben Suchy (her father and brother), Peter Ostroushko, and Jeff Healy. She has also shared a stage, and a residence, with her soon-to-be husband/guitar player Andrew Pierzina.

Their home includes a few animals, most notably Lucy, a pit bull/boxer mix that runs on a treadmill and Lester Paul, the cat and Executive Producer. Andra has been a frequent guest on A Prairie Home Companion with Garrison Keillor, where she has performed with Emmylou Harris, Renee Fleming, Chris Thile, Sam Bush, and Brad Paisley.

According to Andra, she can artfully shear a sheep so that it looks more muscular than it actually is.  Andra released her debut solo CD, “Patchwork Story”, in 2006.  Andra was nominated for MMA Female Vocalist Of The Year in 2004,2005, and 2006. She also won Rift Mag’s 36 Hour Songwriting Contest.

One of the main reasons H&H was created was to expose mission work possibilities in our own backyard.  One of the criticisms of mission trips and events has been that we are quick to serve people in places different than our own but seldom take care of those in our own communities.  Because of this, H&H was birthed.  At the core, this event encourages participants to step into the shoes of a homeless person – so they go without food or shelter for 30 hours.  The only shelter they are allowed to have is that of a cardboard box.  There are no luxury items allowed – no pillows, no electronic devices, no toothbrushes, no deodorant, and no food.  Where youth have been the ‘target audience’ in the past – Homeless & Hungry 2009 looks to involve participants of all ages.

Each participant is encouraged to raise at least $365 from sponsors.  The reason behind this is two-fold.  1) It is said that you can feed a person for $1/day, and we want the participants to be responsible for feeding a person for at least an entire year.  2) The more sponsors we have, the more awareness is created.

Since 2006 Homeless & Hungry has raised $350,000, collected over 40,000 pounds of donations, and has had over 1,000 participants.  What will this next year bring?  Only God knows!

Homeless & Hungry is now attempting to take this community by storm.  All churches, schools, businesses, & individuals are encouraged to participate in this monumental undertaking.  H&H is not about denominations, specific organizations, or individuals.

The event is Vintage Point’s annual event hosted by the “Giggling Girlfriends.”  Free gifts, treats and kicks and giggles.

Paulee Pulse for 9-14-2009

Monday, September 14th, 2009

Hey Everybody!  Welcome to another blog.  This part will be a little close to my heart.  Tonight, I am going to meet with a couple of women who are awaiting double lung transplants.  So, I want to dedicate this part of my blog to the importance of organ donation.  There are so many people waiting for certain organs, in order to live a healthy life.  I consider myself very lucky to have received a pair of lungs when I did.  Seven years ago, I was in end stage lung function when I got my transplant, but there are many people who are not as fortunate as I am.  I look back, and I know what it is like being on the receiving end of waiting for a transplant, and also been the one watching from the outside, as friends wait for a transplant.  I can assure you that being on either side of the fence is not a fun thing to go through.  As a matter of fact, I think that it is worse to know what people are going through, after you have gone through it yourself.  The worst part of being on the outside, looking in, is when someone tells you that, basically, there is nothing that doctors can do for you anymore.  My friend, Ryan, went through that.  He was the first person I mentored, after my transplant.  He fought so hard, for so long then get a germ (Burkholderia cenocepacia) that basically disqualified him from being able to get the transplant.  I remember when he called me, telling me that he had the germ, and I could hear that the life had been sucked right out of him.  Not too long after that, he passed away.  I remember going to the funeral, and it was probably the most difficult funeral that I ever had to go through, because I put myself in his place, because I was so close to being there myself.

Basically, my point to saying all this is that I want to stress the importance of you becoming a organ donor.  I waited for about three years to get my life saving call.  There are so many people who are waiting for organs, that will die while waiting because there are quite simply not enough organs to go around, and they have to wait for another person to die (who are organ donors).  No one looks forward to death, but wouldn’t it be a little more comforting to know that there will be a part of you that lives on, in someone who desperately needs it?  After all, you are done using it…right?  A lot of people are under the misconception that if you are a donor, that medical people won’t make as much of an effort to save you, if you are put in a life or death situation.  That simply is not true.  I don’t know who started that rumor, but it must have been someone with way too much time on their hands, and too much time to over think things.

I think that becoming an organ donor is the best way to continue to help people, even after you are gone.  When I met with the family of the young man who I received my lungs from, his mother came with a stethoscope asking if she could hear her son’s lungs.  Becoming an organ donor, also puts your family at a little more at ease, knowing that there is a part of you living on after you have passed.  They say that the greatest gift in life, is giving life.  Becoming an organ donor is just that…giving life!

Paulee Pulse – Obama and Your Children

Friday, September 4th, 2009

Hey Everyone!  First I would like to wish all of you a great Labor Day weekend.  Most of you will be enjoying a three day weekend.  Make the most of it, but remember to be safe.

Ok, let’s get down to the nitty gritty…

President Obama Speaks With America’s School Kids.  What’s The Controversy?

Another example of how divided, and paranoid we have become as a nation, and another reason that I think that this country (in my opinion) has become the Divided States Of America.  President Obama wants to send a message to kids talking about the importance of education, and how important it is to stay in school.  A great message right?  I think so.  In a previous blog, I mentioned a Parade Magazine article that Bill O’Reily wrote admiring what President Obama went through on his road to the White House.  He wasn’t talking about his political journey, but his personal journey to the White House.  We have become so damn divided in this country, that even when a President wants to deliver a positive message to the youth of our country, there are some people in this country believe that there is going to be some underlying political message going along with it.  My god people!  Has Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Scott Hennen and other talk show hosts, from the right, made you THIS paranoid?  I will admit, I lean to the Democratic side, but if George W. Bush wanted to do this, I would have no problem with that.  As a matter of fact, I would admire him for doing such a thing.  There are so many youths these days that do not see the importance of school, and look for easy ways to try and get ahead without doing the work.  While others go the way of drugs and alcohol, and are doomed to lives of heartache and so many difficulties in life that they turn to a way of life that is bad, and make no contribution to building the strength and well being of this country.

But if people would put aside political agendas and really see what the President is doing.  He is making an example of how, even if you start down the wrong path, you can turn your life around, and succeed at anything.  I don’t care who you are, if you look at where the President has been, and where he is today, that is pretty darn impressive.  Especially considering that he is a black man, and how far African Americans have come in the last 100 years!  Battling against all odds to get to where he is at.  I don’t care how you might think that he is doing at his job, as President, the fact that he is in that position speaks volumes of his life.  So if the President would want to speak to my kids about the importance of school, it would be an honor to have his speak to my kids!

But going back to an earlier point, the talk show hosts who are bashing such a think have made the President out to be such a bad man, and he is going to destroy this country, that it is sickening!!  The right had eight years to make this country the way they wanted it, and where did it lead us?  Down a path of such greed and corruption that this country was in such a mess when Obama too the reigns, and now he is doing what he can to turn it around.  If he has to step on some political toes of those who got the country so messed up, I say step away.  It is time to start doing what is best for this country, and not just what is good for one political party.  Will this happen?  No.  There are way too many egos, and politicians that are so out of touch with “real” Americans, that they will just go on their merry way, living in their land of disillusion.  Quite honestly, it makes me sick.  Thinking that the President will use children as political pawns is ridicules.  Everything has to have some political agenda doesn’t it?  Did you ever stop and think that the President might just want to encourage kids to stay in school, get an education, so they can do well in life?

Come on righties…WAKE UP!  It seems like you are doing more brainwashing to these children than President Obama could ever do!

GOING TOO FAR!

One of the nice things about the KFGO Studio is that we monitor the three major news networks, and I saw something on CNN that I found very disturbing.  There is a Southern Baptist Church in Tempe Arizona that was lead by Pastor Steven Anderson, and the graphic showed this Pastor, with the words, “I’m gonna pray he (Obama) dies and goes to hell.”  Obviously this got my attention.  This took place the day before President Barack Obama was in Arizona for a healthcare town hall meeting.  The reason that this Pastor was saying such a thing was because of President’s Pro-Choice view on abortion. So, let me get this straight, because President Obama is pro-choice, HE should DIE???  Ok, number one, President Obama, is NOT the one performing the abortions.  Number two, If you want someone to die, because of his views on abortion does not make sense.  Either way, it is ending a human life!  If you are trying to come across as someone who wants to be a humanitarian, you are totally contradicting yourself.  I don’t know if it is more of a racial thing, or what, but ending a life because of their views on pro-choice or pro-life is never an answer!  Finally, it is my opinion that a church (no matter the denomination), should not be a political pulpit!  Promoting one’s faith should be the reason for being in church.  If you want to do a rally promoting your opinion, I have no problem with that.  But if my pastor, or priest, started going off about something that is political, hate filled, or calling for someone to DIE, I would walk out.  There is a time, and place for such speeches, and church is not the time or place.  Another reason that this bugs me is because someone who attended this “service” showed up outside the Obama Town Hall Meeting with a gun!  I am sure that many of you who watch the news channels saw this person.  He had quite the heavy armor gun strapped to his back.  Are we becoming that divided as a nation?  I have talked in previous blogs, about this country becoming the Divided States of America.  This is showing me more and more how divided that we truly are.  I will say a special prayer for people who are following this Pastor, that they might see that taking someone’s life, due to hatred, is never they answer!

Paulee’s Pulse for Thursday 8-20-09

Thursday, August 20th, 2009

Normally, I try and keep my blog a little more light and upbeat, but this time I want to give my view on something that has been on my mind.  There has been a lot of talk about including homosexuals in the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America.  Taking calls for the Mike McFeely Show, there are a lot of narrow minded people on views on homosexuality.  Someone, during Wednesday’s show, went so far as to say that the tornado that hit Downtown Minneapolis was God’s way of punishing the ELCA for their acceptance of homosexuals.

I must say that I have friends who are homosexuals, and have heard many of their stories, and in my opinion, people who say that homosexuality is a choice are dead wrong.  Yes, that is right, I said it.  If you ever took the time, to ever sit down, and talk to someone who is homosexual, and get to know them, after a while you start to think that there is no way that it can be a choice that someone would make.  I have heard so many stories of people being confused to feeling “different” than others while they were growing up.  They knew that they were different than anyone else and finally came to terms with what it was.  Hearing the struggles that they go through, with having to tell family, and friends that they are homosexual, had to be one of the hardest decisions in their life.  Having to “live a lie for so long” as one friend put it, had to be so agonizing, I just cannot imagine.

There are people that call in and say that homosexuality is wrong because it says so in the Bible.  Now, full disclosure, I am a heterosexual and Catholic…and consider myself a good Catholic.  But, I also realize that, what I recognize as God, did not write the Bible with his own hand.  It was humans who wrote the Bible, and back when it was written, there was so little known as to why someone was a homosexual, so some people saw something different from the norm, and because they may have been heterosexual, what a homosexual was doing was wrong.  But over the years, and looking into more of how people are made up, in my view, I think that it is something that you are born with.

I think that it is almost a form of racism.  People are born of different races, are born with diseases, born with deformities, so why not being born with a homosexuality gene?  I think that it is time for people to open their mind as to why they are the way they are.  I was born with Cystic Fibrosis…it is something that I cannot help being born with.  But, I don’t want people to hate me for something that I cannot help.  Why would I hate someone for something that is not their fault, or their choice?

We are ALL born in God’s image.  If you notice in that statement, there is no revisions to race, color, or sexual orientation.  We are all God’s children, and we should live that way.  Hate only breeds more hate.  If someone does something to you personally to offend you, ok, but hating someone based only on their color, or who they choose as a life’s partner, is going to solve nothing.  We need to be more accepting of some people, because if we are not, I am sure that there is something about you that you wish were different, that you cannot help.  Should I hate you because of that alone?  Think about it…..

WHO IS RIGHT, OR WHAT IS RIGHT?

This whole health coverage issue has really shown me something about America.  Lawmakers, Politicians, and talk show hosts aren’t really concerned about doing the right thing for America, but they seem to be concerned with WHO will be right.  Talk show hosts have more power than, I think, they realize.  I do listen to both sides of issues.  I do not listen to just the Democratic side, or just the Republican side.  When I am home, I flip between all of the news stations (CNN, MSNBC, Fox News), and when I am in the car, I do flip around the talk stations to see what they are talking about, and how they are talking about it.  The more, and more I listen, the more I believe that the people in power seem to be more concerned with having their opinion, or their party’s opinion, be right, more than getting together and come up with ONE idea that will help everybody.  I have started to notice that I really do not use the term the “UNITED” States of America anymore.  Quite honestly, we are not UNITED anymore.  My question is, who is more to blame?  Is it the politicians?  My opinion, no.  It is the talk show hosts.  Both radio and television have talk show hosts that are more about their opinion, and getting their agendas across, rather than saying, and making a plea to the politicians to stop acting like children, and let’s all get together and do what is right for the country.

In my last blog I made mention of a Parade Magazine article, when Bill O’Reilly talked about President Barack Obama, and how he can teach our children on how to grow up and become something, when faced with adversity.  He also made mention that he got blasted from many people, on the right, about writing such an article.  I have no doubt that President Obama is working to try to make the US a better place for everyone.  But with all the talk show hosts blasting him on one side, and praising him on the other, there is so much confusion, and misinformation (on BOTH sides), no wonder Americans are divided!

When are we, as Americans, going to say, “Enough is enough!”  We are definitely a divided country, and it is up to politicians to start putting away their egos, and start doing what is right for us!  The people that put them there!  If I were to hold one of these “Town Hall Meetings,” mine would not be putting my political views out there, it would be to say that it is time we all start helping each other, and do what is best for us.  Remember the motto: Divided We Stand, Divided We Fall?  Look around people…we are FALLING!!  Job losses, the economy, corruption, the basic outlook on America itself!

I know people who have quite the egos in the media.  I have worked with local voices from around here who do have big egos (a certain red head, and the local Republican talk show host), listened to Rush, and Hannity, Lavin, Colmes, Olberman, Maddow…these are the voices for our politicians.  Maybe not directly, but you know that they are being fed stuff from the higher ups.  Who is the one, who will have the “spawldings” to say enough!  Look what we are doing to this country?  My opinion…none of them.  Because, like so many of our politicians, their egos will not let them.  But I think that it needs to take a bipartisan voice to do this.  It will not happen anytime soon because the “Ed Heads,” and “Rush Robots” with tell them that this voice it a nut job, and discredit them, so the people who take what they say as God’s word will believe them!  Welcome to the Divided States Of America…All for one, and one for themselves!

Hey everybody!  I hope that this week is going great for all of you.  Finally, the weather is starting to warm up, just in time for fall.

BILL O’REILLY ACTUALLY PRAISES OBAMA

Monday night, I was flipping around and stopped on Fox News.  Greta Van Susteren had a segment with Bill O’Reilly, about an article he wrote for parade magazine (you can read the article at http://www.parade.com/news/2009/08/09-what-obama-can-teach-americas-kids.html) that talked about how Obama went through a lot of tough times to make it all the way to the White House.  I read the story and thought it was a great article.  When watching him on Fox News, he mentioned that he got blasted for saying something positive about Obama from a lot of Republicans.  It seems that the Rush Limbaughs and the Sean Hannitys of the world have vilified President Obama so much, that they cannot appreciate what it took for Obama to get where he is.  Look back 20 and 30 years ago.  Do you think that anyone would have thought a black man could get to be President?  Back then, I would have said, it would be highly unlikely.  The day that Barack Obama was officially announced as the Presidential candidate for the Democrats, I got choked up.  I thought, “After everything that African-Americans have been through in the last hundred years, what a proud moment for them!”

But getting back to the O’Reily article, he talked about all the hardships that Obama went through, and how his determination, and drive to be the best, could inspire the youth of America.  You won’t hear me say this often, but I totally agree with Bill.  He went on to say that, he didn’t hate President Obama, he just didn’t agree with a lot of his policies.  He also said that if some people didn’t like what he said about Obama, “Too bad.”  Nicely done Bill O’Reily.  Now, if you could teach Rush and Sean that it is okay to disagree with someone, and not make them out to be the worst person in the world.

POWERBALL LOTTERY

Congrats to Clayton Kuhlemeyer, of Dilworth, who won $200,000 in the North Dakota State Powerball.  Nice to see that he is going to use the money responsibly to pay off bills, and set some aside.  Tonight (Wednesday), the Powerball Lottery tops $180 million.  If you won the lottery, what would you do with it?  Do you have a plan, or do you think that the chances of winning are so remote that you don’t even bother to make one?  I love playing the Powerball Lottery, but I do it responsibly.  If I were to win, my plan is to split it with my family equally.  After that, I would donate some to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.  Since I suffer from it, and have seen a few people pass away from it, I REALLY want to be able to find a cure, and/or find better treatments to keep it in check.  After that, I would donate some to the University of Minnesota-Fairview’s Transplant department.  That is where I had my double lung transplant done over seven years ago.  Any help I can give them, to help other people going through the transplant process, would make me feel great.  From there, I have a group of friends that I would like to help out who are a little financially strapped.  After all of that, then I would probably work on myself.  I would hope that I have the smarts to use the money I have left over to use it responsibly.  I would want to get a modest house, and probably a new car, take a few more trips.  I know that I would want to keep working.  Maybe drop down to part time here at Radio Fargo Moorhead.  Why would I still work?  I tend to get bored really easily, and I love doing the radio/TV thing.  The group here at Radio Fargo-Moorhead, in my opinion, is the best group to work for in town, and I have had a great experience with them.  I have so much fun working here, what why would I not want to continue to do something that I love doing?  But, I am sure that a long vacation would be in order though after I did win the lottery.

THAT’S ALL FOLKS!

Well, that is all for now.  At the time I am writing this, we are all anxiously awaiting for those precious radio ratings to come out.  I love that day (that comes twice a year here), because people watching around the building is the best.  Everyone is so stressed, and pacing around the time the numbers come out.  I know that we have a great team here at Radio Fargo Moorhead, and work harder than any other station, or company, in town, but with the Arbitron Ratings, you never know what will happen.  I am sure that you will see numbers published in the local paper in the coming weeks.  Wish us luck, and thank you all for listening to all of our stations!  Until next time, this is Paulee saying, “Be good to yourself…and each other.”  *Thanks for that one Jerry Springer*

WE FEST WRAPS UP

Hey there again, I hope that you all had a great weekend.  One of the biggest country music festivals has come to an end.  Sadly, it ended with two deaths.  Let’s hope that in future events such as this, this can be avoided.  But for the most part, and from what I have heard, it was another big success.  They already have artists being booked for the 2010 WE fest.  I think that it is a cool event for the region, but as a non-drinker, you realize how annoying drunk people really are.  So, that is the main reason I am not an attendee to the event.  I did go to the event about 10 or 12 years ago, and it was okay.  Of course, back then I was not a real big country fan, so I spent most of the day people watching.  When doing that, I started to wonder, is it about the music?  Is it about boozing it up?  Or is it both?  I know one thing, it is great for the Detroit Lakes economy.  Now if only people would party responsibly, it would be an awesome event…in my opinion.

Sen. Dick Durbin, center, says protests disrupting recent town hall meetings go against "the democratic process."

TOWN HALL MEETING CHAOS

There is a lot of controversy around a lot of these town hall meetings where people are protesting quite loudly.  Okay, people, we get it, you’re not a fan of the Obama plan on healthcare.  But, there are better, and more civil ways of going about it.  There is a difference between a healthy debate, and not letting people have a discussion where issues are resolved.  It is called being mature and civil.  Also, talk show hosts such as Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity are not helping the situation, and almost encouraging such behavior.  If a bunch of hot heads shouting all at once, what gets accomplished?  I have said it before, and I will say it again, we need to have both sides sit down, and discuss what is best for the country (from both sides of the political isle) and be less concerned about who came up with the plan.  It would hold a lot more water if it was a joint plan, rather than a Democrat or a Republican plan.  But, that won’t happen because there are too many egos involved that gets in the way of most plans that come out of Washington.  No one wants what’s best for the country anymore, but which side can push their plan, and their plan alone.

WHATS HAPPENING THIS WEEK

AMERICAN LEGION WORLD SERIES STARTS THIS WEEK

For the third time, the American Legion World Series starts this weekend at Newman Outdoor Stadium.  This is a change of venue from the last couple times it was here.  The last time I attended the ALWS, was back in 1983, and I had the honor of meeting Roger Maris.  It was a great time, and now being at Newman Outdoor Stadium, it will be great to see the turnout, at a bigger stadium, and a little more accomodating than Jack Williams.  Nothing against Jack Williams, but I love going to Newman for Redhawks games, and it is a little more comfortable for the number of people that it will be generating.  For all information about the event, is www.post2baseball.com.  There is plenty of oppertunites to volunteer at the event.  Head of over to the website for more information.  Check it out, and we hope to see you there.

Well, I think that is about it for this time around.  As always, you can connect with me on Facebook, or email me at paulleintz@radiofargomoorhead.com.  I hope to see you out and about at one of these events, and if you see me, come up and say hi!  I am a friendly guy…really, ask my mom!

Later Everyone!
